Of the many interesting fields in computer science few are
as complicated and captivating as graphics. One of the greatest
achievements computer scientists have made, was the ability to render graphical
images to a screen. The process of
mapping images to a screen is fascinating and I could spend a whole blog on
just that. However, I must digress to the more interesting and focus of this
blog. Computer graphics have done amazing
things such as creating an easy to use interface for a user. Moving away from
the console to a Graphical User Interface designed created a much easier
interface for users to operate a computer. In my opinion however, whenever I think of
graphics I think of video games.
People strive for realistic images on a computer. As long as there is a market for improvement,
computer scientists will find a way to make it happen.
Hello! I liked how you talked about videos games since I'm also fascinated how real the graphics of games look today. My first video game system was the Nintendo 64, and recently I just purchased myself the Playstation 4. The differences of computer graphics is just unbelievable. I'd like if you posted how the specifications of older systems differ from the specifications of new systems. In any case, video game graphics have gone through such a dramatic change.
ReplyDeleteHi Joseph,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Computer graphics most interesting fields in computer science. The link you provided on mapping images is informative. The comparison you provided (old and new computer games) gives a real understanding of what you are talking. There will always be market for improvement in computer graphics and I hope new and amazing technologies will come up in the near future which will still enhance the quality of present day’s graphics.
Hi Joseph,
ReplyDeleteI love this post, especially the illustration of Super Mario. It brings me back to my childhood.
Computer graphics is an important area in computer science. Gaming industry could not develop so rapid without the support of computer graphics, and its huge profit turn out support the research in computer graphics. All of these form a positive feedback and run well by themselves.
While video game graphics improve every year, I think the audience of games is changing as well. There are more and more casual games such as those on Facebook and mobile devices that have less technological graphics compared to console games. Graphics care nice but if casual games become the norm then I wonder what would happen to GPU technology, which a GPU isn't really needed to play casual games.
